David had a rude awakening this morning, just once this time but he certainly didn't feel like breakfast so he only had some fruit. I had the whole catastrophe. And then I started to feel a bit queasy after breakfast I think the sandwich we had for lunch yesterday may have been the culprit. It was raining very lightly but we needed to go get some stuff to help us feel better and to take to Denali on Saturday plus I needed long underwear as the elastic in mine had broken LOL John had told us about a shop called Fred Meyer where you could buy anything you needed well..........he was so right!! There is everything you would ever need under one roof!!! So we got some alka seltzer, chicken soup and crackers, muesli bars for Denali, food for dinner tomorrow night and our long underwear. My long underwear pants are so soft and warm. Back in our room we take some alka seltzer and have a lie down.
We both feel a bit better after a lie down and then some soup and crackers so we take a walk downtown to visit the Ice Museum. They show you a movie about the Ice Sculpture competition that is held in Fairbanks every March. Special contractors cut hundreds of HUGE blocks of ice from the river. There is an indivivdual competition where one person sculpts one block and then there is a group competition where a group of 5 sculpts many blocks over the period of a week. The scupltures were amazing!! then at the museum there is a display of ice sculptures in large refridgerated rooms. We are so glad we left our long underwear on ha ha it's freezing in the rooms. Then we see it an ice slide I said to David I so want to slide on that!!! The young man doing the presentation comes back in and takes some photos of David and I (not very good ones LOL) and then asks if we want to slide!! so I go first it's so much fun and then David has a go ha ha big kids! Then the young man who is originally from China does a small ice sulpture of a flower for us, it's very good. We go back to our room for a while but we have booked tickets to see the Northern lights show at 8pm. The Northern lights or Aurora Borealis are only able to be viewed when it gets dark ie not at the moment cause it's light 24hrs a day so the alternative is to see photos that someone has taken. Leroy Zimmerman is a local photographer that has been taking photos of the auroras for over 30 years and he puts his photos to music. He takes photos every 3 seconds so that it looks like the auroras are moving because apparently you can't film them. It is an amazing presentation.
By the end of the day we both feel a bit better.
