WE SAW BEARS!!!!! Fort Nelson - Watson Lake

Sunday 1st June First day of northern summer wooohooo

What a cracker of a day!!!
Breakfast was free, buffet-style not the best breakfast I've ever had but it filled a hole.

We were filled, packed and on the road by 9am.  In the first 33 miles outside town we saw our first bear I did get photos but they are not wonderful and after lunch we saw heaps more David asked if I wanted him to stop so I could get a better photo ummmm NO!!!  my heart was pounding so hard.  We also saw heaps of other wildlife today moose, big horn sheep, bison and elk.  Saw a dead beaver on the road poor thing.  Took heaps of photos today the views were gorgeous, the photos don't really do it justice.  We saw a large lake that was still frozen over almost completely!!

We missed another stop today it's pretty funny when it happens we're both like "was that our stop?" and by that time we are a mile past it.  A lot of the little stops along the way are closed so we bought petrol when we could which meant paying $1.95 a litre today and $18.00 for 2 sandwiches!!

We took our sandwiches with us to have when we got to the hot springs at Liard River.  This place was spectacular you walk along a 700m boardwalk to the springs, on the way out there was a bull moose he was HUMUNGOUS (check out the photo below, picture David's head at his shoulder and you have his size) and you get out there and the boardwalk widens our onto a deck with mens & womens change areas and seats etc and then the deck continues and becomes steps with railings leading down into the water.  It was so gorgeous, all I expected was like a rock pool kind of oasis thing but this was even better.  At one end the water was so hot I could bearly put my feet in it.  The water got cooler as you moved along the deck finally we found a spot we could tolerate.  It was so lovely.  As we are walking along the boardwalk back to the bike Terry comes walking along so we chat to him for bit and then we get back to the bike and John is there so we chat to him for a bit.  And then another biker comes along and asks if we went in the big, deep hole?? oh no we didn't but we did have a great time.

Back on the bike as we ride away from the springs we see what looks like a newborn bison by the road with no sign of an adult it is sooo cute.  It takes a couple of hours to get to Watson Lake with a petrol stop at a little place along the way.  We are now in the Yukon wow that sounds so amazing we are in Yukon Territory!!!
The hotel we are staying in is super dodgy, for a start the towels are threadbare and have tears in them.  I use those towels at home for the dogs!!! oh and by the way dogs are allowed in this hotel and there are HEAPS of them. eewww we will have to be more careful when booking hotels.  We are told we have the biggest bed in the hotel it is huge!!!

We walk over to a superrmarket across the way to get some food and get sandwiches for dinner.  The hotel doesn't provide breakfast so we looked for cereal/oats but they didn't have what we wanted so we got fruit salad and yoghurt looks yum!
