Prince William Sound

Thursday 12th June

Today we are going on a cruise on Prince William Sound.  To get to Whittier where the boat is docked we have to ride through a two and half mile (approx 4kms) one laned tunnel that has a train line running through it.  Sounds easy well let me tell you it's intense!! you have to ride between the train lines on concrete that is wet in places and there are fans at each end blowing quite hard.  The woman at the ticket counter was very negative and the last thing she said to us was if you fall over wait by your motorcycle until we come to help you, very encouraging needless to say we made it through with no mishaps phew!!!!  We met a woman travelling on her own on a motorcycle her name was Carol from Whistler she hadn't ever ridden in the tunnel either so we were pep talking each other. Carol made it through too.  Carol id the second woman we have met travelling on a motorcycle on her own I felt a bit sad for her but she seemed to be having a great time no agenda just travelling.
We parked the bike and of course it cost.  We boarded the boat Klondike Express and sat down opposite a couple from San Jose and their son.  When we were boarding we noticed a Malaysian family that had been on the same bus as us at Denali and had stayed in the same hotel in Seward.  We said hello and chatted for a while.
The cruise was amazing we saw a humpback whale, hundreds of sea otters, seals, eagles and a fisherman pulling in salmon on a gill net.  The sea otters are so cute they lie on their backs and float along sleeping eating and cradling their young.  The humpback wasn't very active unfortunately.  As we got closer to the glacier we saw lots of 'icebergs' and ice falling from the glacier.  The noise is amazing cracks groans and thunder-like noises as the ice moves.
It's raining lightly when we get back to port so David moves the bike to an undercover walkway so we can dry it off before we get on to ride back through the tunnel of doom ha ha

We ride back to Girdwood and Chair 5 for dinner of burgers, yes we are eating a lot of burgers but these were also very good mushrooms and swiss cheese mmmmm.  When we get back to the B&B a bath is in order to thaw out and wow what a luxury!
