We have breakfast at Buckshot Betty's and have a chat to the owner Carmen. We will be back here in about 11 days and by then there will be two more cabins. Just before the border we hit more roadworks and I just couldn't resist taking a pic.
It was a super long construction zone and the pilot car was driving like a bat outta hell. Just before the border we stopped to take photos.
ahhhhh Alaska!! |

We stopped a short way over the border for petrol back to green money, gallons and cheap petrol. The roads improved by 1000% after we passed through another short roadworks. Our next stop was Northway Junction and our morning drink no tea or hot choc for Dave so he went to the fridge to look for choccie milk none of that either!!! so he had juice, I had a latte (made apparently on evapourated milk mmm interesting) it was sooooo hot I couldn't finish it. She had made me a larger one than I asked for but only charged me for a medium, so I had drunk quite a bit.
Our next stop was Tok (proun. toke) for more petrol and lunch. We got sandwiches at the service station and took them across the road to the visitor's centre where there were picnic tables under the trees. Alaska has many many dandelions and the fuzzy seed pods are flying everywhere through the air. After lunch we took a look in the visitors centre and get very excited about all the cool stuff we have planned for Alaska!
We stop at a rest stop along the way and it is one of the most scenic I have ever seen what do you think?
It was a pleasant ride through the afternoon towards Fairbanks we stopped at Delta junction for a stretch and a treat (we called John at the B&B to let him know we were on our way) and at Salcha for petrol (we were on reserve and 30+ miles to Fairbanks and not sure there was anywhere to stop ha ha ) we went inside to have a cuppa and a break and there was another biker in there having his lunch and we got chatting about all things Alaska and David asked him "when does the sun go down?" thinking he would say something like 2am and he says "hey when does the sun go down?" to the waitress and she says "oh August 15th!" I was laughing so hard.
We rode through North Pole and then came into Fairbanks. We found the B&B pretty easily it's very cute and cosy and is two houses on one block one our apartment is in and the other where we go for breakfast he lets out 9 rooms altogether. John gives us some hints about things to see and places to eat and I am struck by how small the town is waay smaller than Newcastle. We end up eating at a place called Soapy Smiths, he was a conman back in the day apparently ha ha. Clam chowder for dinner was delicious.
