Day 4 Devonport - Stanley via Sheffield/Promised Land/Penguin

St Patrick's Day

At 6:30 our garage level was called down to our vehicles it was all pretty quick from there and very exciting riding off the ship.  David had organised for us to have breakfast at the Kit Kat Cafe, Bacon & egg rolls and coffee/tea yum! it's so funny though when the shop assistant asks if we want to take away when we are quite obviously on a motorbike.
We ride over to Devonport after breakfast and I'm surprised at how small it is and then we drive out to Sheffield to have a look around it's very pretty with Mt Roland in the background but not much is open an the markets are pretty daggy.  I used a public loo and stayed ages 'drying' my hands LOL it was a very cold morning and when I finally came out and told David why I was so long he went in to warm his hands and face too as the Mens 'dryer' had been cold ha ha  After looking around town for a while we ride out to Karen's place (Promised Land)  Karen and Alex showed us around outside all the chickens, sheep, goats ad cows and then we went inside for a cuppa, Karen had made some yummy brownies and her cousin Lyn and her daughterr Jai had come to visit.  Alex took David outside to show him the chicken incubators etc and Karen sowed me around the house.  We got into the bathroom and my knee felt 'wet' so I checked and it was bleeding and bleeding so I put a bandaid on it and while we were in Alex's room Lyn came and said "I just found a leech on the kitchen floor" and that would explain my knee - stupid critters just love me!
We left Karen's and had a quick squizz at Tasmazia.  Then we were driving along some really nice country roads and thought we would stop at a place called Nietta for lunch but we got there and there was nothing!!  I needed to go to the toilet and it was looking like I would need to use a tree when suddenly David saw a public toilet by the side of the road so he pulled off the road and over we went!! the gravel was very deep it made us go over on the right side, David was caught by his leg so I had to lift the bike to let his leg outWe got the bike up and when I went to the toilet I noticed two small grazes on my right knee that and a small burn on David's right shoe were the only injuries thank goodness we had our gloves and jackets on and we weren't riding in T-shirts and vests like we normally do!  (note photo of bike and 2 person shaped 'hole' in the gravel) oops
We then rode up to Leven Canyon and walked up to the lookout it was spectacular! on the way riding out we noticed a teahouse and decided to go back there for a late lunch.  it was just what we needed hoemade bread and vegetable soup and for dessert Josterberry sorbet and caramel tarts...just delightful!!!  The teahouse is in a garden called Kaydale which has been established 27 years it's absolutely beautiful and Kay the owner is willing to chat about howe they established the garden.  We flick through a book describing the making of the garden and it has pictures of the different seasons in it.
We then drove over to Penguin a lovely little seaside village and from there through Bernie to Stanley which is such a neat pretty little town everything here is so clean!!  the town is arranged around The Nut the hotel is so cute built in 1847 but has been recently renovated and is lovely.
We are staying here for 2 nights which is nice.  And we enjoy some wine before our dinner reservations at 8pm.  Dinner was yummy we shared an entree of a dozen oysters with smoked salmon and camembert and then David had the beef and guinness pie (in honour of St Patty's Day) and I had Ocean trout both were delicious!!
