Breakfast was pretty good, make your own waffles.
I have been planning for this day for a while John Denver songs loaded onto my iphone for the ride down the Blue Ridge Parkway.
We made a slight wrong turn trying to find a morning tea stop and ended up in the Shanendoah (sp?) National Park on Skyline Drive oh well we were having a really lovely morning riding along it just seemed right.
We stopped in a small town called Waynesboro for petrol and lunch. A man at the petrol station admired my hair glove, I think he was jealous LOL his hair was in dreads.
We had lunch at Tastee Freez the burgers were good but the dessert was to die for!! we don't normally do dessert at lunch but a banana cream pie sundae was too good to pass up (sharing OF COURSE!) think Maccas sundae with real banana slices, caramel sauce, pie crumbs in the bottom and sprinkled all over the top mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!!!!!
Then we headed up to the Blue Ridge Parkway the road was really quite good UNTIL! we came upon some roadworks with a pilot car OK no biggie been there done that BUT part way through the one way section the pavement disappeared and the whole road was gravel. The pilot car stopped due to a water spraying truck ahead so we waited and then the pilot car started again up around a sweeping bend and then suddenly stopped with us stuck on the downwards inclining sweeping bend. aaarrrggghhh over we went!! it was not graceful and I was not laughing my left foot had taken the full weight of the bike because the wheels were in the air! David managed to lift it off my foot alone and then some bikers that were behind us came up and helped us right it. We both sustained minor injuries Dave slight muscle strain in his chest, me swollen left foot and ankle, scraped left forearm. The bike some scratches on the farring. The pillion passenger off the bike behind said "I'm walking the rest of the way!" so the guys rode the bikes while we walked up the rest of the way passed the gravel section. Meanwhile the pilot car was oblivious!! gah! It put a bit of a dampener on an otherwise lovely day.
We quickly put it behind us and found our accomodation in Covington where I put some ice on my ankle and elevated it on pillows on the bed for a while while David went to fuel up the bike ready for the morning.
We walked next door to a steakhouse I was really looking forward to a steak and a cold beer!!! What they don't serve alcohol???!!! what the!!! oh well the steak was good.
Here is a glimpse of our awesome ride with "Country Roads" blaring on the audio system.
no wonder they call it blue ridge parkway |
