Off to YELLOWSTONE!!!!!!

Thursday June 28th

We have been on our trip of a lifetime now for about 8 weeks and today we head for Yellowstone.  I really thought that there might come a time that I just wanted to go home but we are having sooo much fun it's just going so fast.

It's so exciting to be heading to this massive National Park.  The world's very first National Park!! established in 1872!

We start out with sunny weather, a few clouds, a bit cool.  Once we have our gear on we are really warm.  Our first stop is Red Lodge for fuel and it starts to rain lightly while we are here.  Our next stop is Top of the world once we have tackled Bear Tooth Pass on the Bear Tooth Highway.  At the start of the pass it is sunny and we start winding our way up soon getting stuck behind an RV with a couple of cars following, at one point a Goldwing following us passes the two cars and then when the traffic is clear again the RV too that's when we follow suit and take all three over unbroken lines ooohhh um ahhh LOL  We then come up behind three VERY slow motorcycles Harleys of course LMAO! it takes a while but we pass them too.  Today there are cyclists racing up the mountain (9000ft at the summit! crazy people) and then.........it starts to snow!! yes snow ..the white flakes falling from the sky as we rode, lightly at first and then it gets heavier and heavier.  It's too funny and so cold.  The snow is not sttling on the road but it is accumulating on our windscreen and on the GoPro.  David has to stop to clear them off.  At the top we see people skiing!! and there is a ski lift working too.  As we get closer to Top of the world the snow stops but there is still heaps lying around.  We stop at Top of the world for a hot drink.  We get chatting to other bikers who have just come down and marvel that there is snow in June!  The man behind the counter is a barrel of laughs!!! ha ha did not crack one smile.  As we are leaving a car pulls in and takes our photo and the driver waves they have a flag on their side mirrors and I thought it was Aussie on closer inspection they are Kiwis.  I walk over to say hello and then we get back on the road we get stuck behind two motorcyclists who obviously don't ride much and are going painfully slowly (I wished I could have given them some tips!).  So we pass as soon as we can.  We arrive at the park gate and by this time it is raining quite heavily.  Thank goodness there was a cover over the gate.  We ride in and experience the first, of what will be many, wildlife induced traffic jams.  We arrive at registration about 4pm and our room is not ready, maybe 4:30-5pm!!  So we look around at dinner options, there are several including a grocery store where you can buy noodle cups, frozen meals etc and cook them and eat them there (no cooking allowed in rooms).  Then we check out the visitors centre and go into the theatrefor a short film and both almost fell asleep.  So we went back to registration and our room is still not ready so they allocate us a different room.  We get to the room, get settled and have a nap LOL.  Then we head up to the lounge for dinner.  Our server Toni is from Massachusetts and says beer like we do it's very funny.  Dave has the meatloaf dinner and I haver the trout it's great.  Then we take a walk out to the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone and Inspiration Point which is not very inspiring.

yay Yellowstone!!
