Exploring Yellowstone

June 29th/30th and July 1st

We have seen so many amazing things over the last three days exploring Yellowstone that I am sure I will run out of superlatives to describe it all.  I would like to try to share our experiences with you.

We had several close encounters with wildlife particularly bison here are just two peices of footage you moight enjoy especially our comments ha ha

so close we could have touched them

fightie fight ha ha
We saw so many geological wonders I cannot possibly share them all but here are a few photos.  The blue pools are the hottest 168F degrees and the pool that is blue in the middle and orange around the outside is like that because someone threw something in the pool (which is illegal btw) and it makes the pool cool down and change colour, very unfortunate.  My favourite was the bubbling mud pools and the noisy geysers that vented and sounded like a steam train.
us aren't we cute

Morning Glory near Old Faithful

Old Faithful before

Old Faithful after

Old Faithful is so predictable they predicted it would 'go off' at 3:35pm +/- 10 minutes it went off at 3:40pm! it's pretty impressive I have film but for some stupid reason I turned the camera sideways LOL

One of the 'quirks' of Yellowstone NP is the wildlife induced traffic jams.  People stop completely in the middle of the road just because a bison is close to the road!!  Pull off people!!  We saw bears, bison, elks, deer and birds galore.

The mountains, the waterfalls, the canyons, geysers and walks.  We had a ball and it is so huge we couldn't possibly see everything I think the canyon area was my favourite I'm glad we stayed there and so glad that Old Faithful was full.  The day we went there it was so crowded and the carpark so big that it was not good we were glad to get out of there.

We stayed in a cabin in Canyon Village it was so quiet most of the time...except each night around 9- 9:30pm a bus load of tourists (mostly Asians) arrived stomping in and talking (read yelling) to each other till very late.  And then at 5am again talking VERY loudly and running on the wooden stairs waking us both up!!

Riding around Yellowstone was so beautiful, scenery was great and the roads were quite good.  There were several times when we had to stop for up to 30 minutes because people had stopped in the middle of the road.  And one day a big truck did a u-turn right in front of the car in front of us and the worst thing he couldn't do it 'cleanly' so he had to quickly back up in front of us to avoid being hit by a big RV coming around the corner yes he did it over unbroken lines on a blind corner.  He got a special wave!!

We walked (they call it hiking) we call it bushwalking
